Collection Instructions “5 mL urine aliquot from a well-mixed 24-hour urine collection – no preservative. Specify 24-hour total volume on container and test requisition. Note: Exercise within 24 hours, infection, fever, congestive heart failure, marked hyperglycemia, and marked hypertension may elevate urinary albumin excretion over baseline values.”

Clinical Significance

Microalbumin is albumin excreted in the urine and is a sensitive marker of nephropathy. It is used to screen for early renal disease in diabetic patients.
